(Although I'll note that the Japanese government has been giving tax breaks to companies doing AI stuff if memory serves me right, which is why a lot of Japanese companies seem so. The AI stuff to me seems mostly unfounded at this point I've seen no evidence besides general complaints about the CEO liking generative AI and them making a bad 'spot the prompt' game. I guess all Ark actually needed was a cartoony monster design? The common consensus seems to be 'it's Ark but actually good', which considering that Ark was one of the bigger disappointments of it's release year (2015) counts for something. I am seeing a lot of people happy with the game itself on it's own merits that aren't just some vague projection about how much they dislike Game Freaks (mis)handling of the Pokemon franchise. Of course, ethically speaking you might draw your own conclusions on if it counts as plagiarism - I'd call it obviously derivative and pretty cynical (especially with the studios obvious Hollow Knight ripoff in mind), but I also do think that if you legitimately enjoy this game, you really should be able to enjoy it.
